The 72nd Anniversary of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) Emancipation Festival takes place this year. This 10-day Caribbean festival is a celebration of the territory’s ancestors’ freedom from colonialism and cultural history. During this time, the BVI showcases the culture and history of its people in grand style with extravaganzas of local and international music, pageants, Food Fairs, Rise & Shine Tramps (early morning street dancing), parades of colourful costumes, gospel celebrations and folklore presentations.
