St Patrick’s Festival is celebrated each year in Montserrat on March 17th – St Patrick’s Day. It commemorates the slave uprising that allegedly took place on that day in 1768. The week-long festival features a host of cultural activities including a Church Service, lecture, exhibition, guided hikes and freedom Run, Heritage Day and Slave Feast, parade and revival of traditional games from yesteryear.
At St Patrick’s Festival, local culture and music come alive with performances from Masqueraders -masked street dancers in traditional costumes, tall head dresses and whips dancing to the lively sound of fife and drum.
