The biggest event on the St. Thomas USVI calendar is the St. Thomas Carnival. The countdown for this major Caribbean Carnival, which is over 70 years, starts the last week of April, a Sunday-to-Sunday taste of carnival madness. The week launches with a crowd-favorite food festival serving up island seafood on the water’s edge. Whether coming in costume or jumping behind the costumed, book early to celebrate the biggest event in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. It is a full offering post-Easter bash.
For devotees, the eliminations and finals, happening earlier in the month, are a chance to immerse in everything carnival. Events forming part of V.I. Carnival include the crowning and presentation of king and queen, steel bands showing off their skills in the Jamboree and songwriters challenging each other for Calypso Monarch of the year. Other events include village nights, boat races and musical performances featuring calypso, soca and reggae. Before the main parade day, revelers wake up early for Jouvert in Charlotte Amalie. Three parades dominate the week with adults, children, and seniors getting their own. No matter the parade, revelers are exotic birds making costume designers proud year after year.
For folks living in the US, it is very easy to get to St. Thomas with daily non-stop flights from many major US cities.
