On December 26, the heart of Grace Bay in Providenciales comes alive with the vibrant sights and sounds of Maskanoo, one of the Turks & Caicos Islands’ most anticipated cultural celebrations. Held annually on Boxing Day, this free street Caribbean festival blends the spirit of Junkanoo with local traditions, offering a lively evening of music, dance, and masquerade.
The festivities begin at dusk along Grace Bay Road, near Saltmills Plaza and Regent Village, where live performances from local musicians and bands set the tone for an unforgettable night. As the evening progresses, costumed revelers take to the streets in a dazzling parade of color and rhythm. Traditional Junkanoo groups, including the renowned “We Funk,” showcase elaborate handmade costumes and pulsating drumlines that echo the festival’s African and Caribbean roots.
Maskanoo is more than a party—it’s a celebration of heritage. Inspired by the “Masses” tradition and Bahamian Junkanoo, the event honors the legacy of enslaved Africans who once celebrated Christmas with music and masquerade. Today, Maskanoo continues that legacy, drawing over a thousand attendees each year.
Visitors can explore artisan stalls offering locally made crafts, souvenirs, and delicious island fare. The night then concludes with a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the Grace Bay sky.
Whether you’re a local or a traveler, Maskanoo promises an immersive experience of Turks & Caicos culture, community, and celebration.
