One of the most prestigious events in the Eastern Caribbean horse racing calendar is the Sandy Lane Gold Cup and the biggest sporting event on the island of Barbados. This major sporting event attracts visitors from all over the world, and for many years both local and regional jockeys have competed there, including some top international jockeys and trainers, with thoroughbred horses in the UK and North America. The Sandy Land Gold Cup is held at the Garrison Savannah and runs over a turf course. The horse racing event is open to horses three years and older.
