The July 4th holiday is more than a day in St. John, USVI, it is the St. John Carnival. It’s a generous holiday season with sporting events, concerts and food, ending with everyone converging on Cruz Bay for the carnival parade and fireworks. The week starts with the steel band competition called Panorama. The food fair full of local cuisine opens on the same day and the vendors remain busy all week. On the 2nd of July, revelers rise before the sun and play Jouvert. Island history and culture are on full display when St. John celebrates Emancipation Day on July 3rd with local cuisine at the food fair, storytelling, Quelbe music performances, quadrille and maypole dancing, and more. On Independence Day on July 4th, dancers parade in spectacular costumes before the awesome fireworks display.
